Hendrik the Ragdoll

Inspired by this book I made the little man a ragdoll. We named him Hendrik. But he was lonely and the munchkin was jealous. So I made Charlotje. Apparently, she loves hairpins.

The little man loves Hendrik. We even got him his own bed (from Ikea) and the little man insisted that Hendrik got a bedtime story.

"Look, Barbapapa!"

Mother's day

I still didn't show you what I made for Mother's day! My mom never knows what presents she wants to have. Flowers are a no-go, she thinks they are way more expensive around mother's day. So I made her some flowers myself.

It's a design from an old issue of Cross Stitcher magazine, I think it's from 2006. She was very happy with it and it has been put on display rightaway! Which goes to show that moms like handmade presents, no matter how old the kid is.

My cup of tea. Or yours?

Did you know Mothers day is approaching? Fast? And even faster if you haven't thought of making or buying your mom anything? Today was Mothers day for my mom. This sunday we are taking the kids to an amusement park (I'm a mom too, you know, so it's my party too) so I gave her a present today. Something I made, so it's extra-special. And no, I'm not cheap. I am just creative. So there. I'll show you what I made tomorrow.

Now let's talk about you. Did you plan anything? No??? In that case, let me save your ass. I made you something too. It's fun and it's so easy that even the dads out there can make it.

These are custom made teabag labels. If you were my kid, or husband, I would love a cup of tea with this label on mothers day. Or a box of teabags, all with this label. Or you can draw or paint your own labels. Or have your kids make them. If you want the ones I made for you, you can download the Dutch version the English version or a neutral version via Box.com.

No need to thank me for this idea! Just want to make sure I have done all I can to prevent you from having a sucky mother's day. If you want to thank anyone, just thank my trusty assistant. None of this would have been possible without his help.
It would just have been faster.

A friend for Otis

There is one swap that I am feeling bad about. It's a "make something for my ..." swap. Your swap partner decides on something that you should make something for. Complicated, huh! Just wait! My swap partner was a Vintage scooter from 1974!!!! his name is Otis and he needed a friend.

I have started so many things for Otis. I made him half a garland, for his handlebars. I made him half a bag for extra tools (we have experience with vintage motorcycles and believe me, extra tools are not a luxury!). I made him half a flower for his handlebars. In fact, I made him about seven half items. But I was never satisfied with the result, so I kept starting over. Until I was flipping through one of my craftbooks. And suddenly I knew!!!

I made Otis a little friend. Her name is Youkou, which is supposed to mean Sunshine (but the translator I used also gave "Sunshain" as a translation option, so I can't say anything about the accuracy of the translation website I used). In Kokeshi dolls, it is tradition (apparently) to give the doll a name that is also what you wish for the person you are giving it to.

So, Otis, dear friend, I hope you will have many rides in the sunshine. Enjoy your company!!!

New books

In one of my last swaps on Swap Bot, I made a couple of notebooks. In a current swap you are supposed to send somethingbthat you have already made. So I'm sending another ntebook. And suddenly, I am all inspired again. So I am making some new small notebooks with 40 pages. Zakka style. And in true Mjammie, Koekjes style, you can send them to someone instead of a card. They come with a matching envelope!
